Texas Sandfest 2023, Port Aransas on Mustang Island

Sandfest is the largest beach sand sculpture contest in the US and its right here in my hometown! Its a huge festival with live music, shopping, food, and of course the most incredible sand sculptures. We aren’t just talking sand castles here, though that is a frequent theme even the castles are extraordinary. The sculptures also take the form of people, animals, and other wild ideas. Sand castles like no other you’ve seen!

Sculptors arrive from all over the world to compete in one of 4 categories. There is a contest for amateurs as well as live instruction in sand sculpture. For artists with a little more experience under their belt there is a semi-pro contest. At the top are the Masters and they compete in one of two groups, either solo or as a 2 person team.
